Google Removes Russian Publishers From Its News Features

Google has removed state-funded Russian publishers from its news-related features which include Google’s News search tool.

The measure, like other sanctions, was adopted after Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

According to Google’s president of global affairs Kent Walker, “in this extraordinary crisis, we are taking extraordinary measures to stop the spread of misinformation and disrupt disinformation campaigns online.”

However, the Russian state media outlet RT criticized the tech giant’s decision, saying it was trying to silence other parts of the truth about the ongoing crisis.

“This collective ‘establishment’ seems to be terrified of a mere presence of any outside voice for the fear of losing their historically captive audience if that audience encounters a different perspective,” RT Deputy Editor-in-Chief Anna Belkina explained.

Belkina went on to explain that tech companies that have cut her platform’s distribution are yet to point to “a single grain of evidence that what RT has reported over these days and continues to report is not true.”
