Alphabet’s YouTube and Google Play Store have confirmed the suspension of all payment-based services in Russia.
“As a follow-up, we’re now extending this pause to all our monetization features, including YouTube Premium, Channel Memberships, Super Chat, and Merchandise, for viewers in Russia,” YouTube disclosed.
However, YouTube channels in Russia will still be able to generate revenue from viewers outside of Russia. This includes Super Chat and merchandise sales.
Google will also be pausing ads for advertisers based in Russia across its properties and networks globally.
According to a company’s support website, free apps on Google Play will remain available in Russia.
After Russia invaded Ukraine, Google and YouTube stopped selling online advertisements in Russia.
Other tech platforms also decided to sanction Russia for its action while others close their operation in the country.
The Russian government has banned the operation of some tech platforms in the country including Facebook and others.
