Microsoft Reminds Customers Of Internet Explorer’s Shutdown

Microsoft has reminded customers that Internet Explorer will shut down in June.

“As previously announced, the future of Internet Explorer on Windows is in Microsoft Edge. The Internet Explorer 11 (IE11) desktop application will be retired on June 15, 2022, for certain versions of Windows 10,” Microsoft said.

Those who will be affected by Internet Explorer 11 retirement include Internet Explorer 11 desktop apps delivered via the Semi-Annual Channel (SAC), Windows 10 client SKUs (version 20H2 and later), and Windows 10 IoT (version 20H2 and later).

After Internet Explorer is retired, the desktop application will be disabled and out of support. It will automatically redirect users to Microsoft Edge when launched.

Microsoft had previously announced plans to retire Internet Explorer 11 web browsers in Windows 10 and Microsoft 365 in August 2020.

Following the announcement, Microsoft ended support for Internet Explorer across Microsoft 365 apps and services on August 17, 2021.
