Windows 11 ‘Restore Apps’ Feature Streamlines Setting Up New PCs

Microsoft is coming up with a new ‘Restore Apps’ feature for Windows 11 that will enable users to seamlessly reinstall all of their previously installed apps from the Microsoft Store on a new or recently installed PC.

“To make it easier for customers to transition to their new PCs quickly and seamlessly, we will soon test a new feature in the Windows Insider channel that helps customers automatically restore their apps, previously installed from the Microsoft Store, to their new Windows device,” explained Giorgio Sardo, Engineering General Manager in the Experiences and Devices Department of Microsoft.

When visiting the ‘Library’ section of the Microsoft Store, a new option will show the apps previously associated with the user’s Microsoft account.

Users will then have to click ‘Restore all’ to restore all of their apps on the new installation of Windows 11 or simply choose the individual apps they want to install.

While standalone desktop applications such as Microsoft Office, Steam, Photoshop, and others cannot be installed in this new process, it will enable users to quickly get their new installation running.

Aside from the restore apps feature, the tech giant will soon enable the installation of apps directly from a search in the Windows 11 Start Menu.
