DoJ To File Antitrust Lawsuit Against Google, Bloomberg

According to Bloomberg News, the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) will file an antitrust lawsuit against Google in the coming weeks.

The U.S. Department of Justice has been investigating Google’s ad-tech practices since 2019 and has also accelerated its investigation of the ad market in recent months under the supervision of the antitrust division’s official, Doha Mekki.

An imminent lawsuit follows the rejection of Google’s concession plans. Last week, Google offered concessions to avoid a potential U.S. antitrust lawsuit, including a proposal to spin off websites and apps into a separate company under Alphabet.

A Google spokesman also confirmed that the company is working with regulators to address concerns, adding that the company has no plan to sell or exit the ad tech market.

The DoJ previously sued Google in 2020 for antitrust violations, accusing the company of illegally using its market power to hamper rivals.

The European Commission and the American government are in the process of drafting legislation that will curtail the dominance and great power of the big tech companies, which will help to boost competition and reduce manipulated dominance.
