Microsoft Outlook Crashes When Reading Emails With Tables

Share post:

Microsoft has issued a security alert for a bug that causes the Outlook email client to crash when opening and reading emails with tables such as Uber receipt emails.

Emails with the same table content also cause the Microsoft Word app to stop responding.

While the Microsoft Word team has already developed a solution to the problem, it will only be released to Beta channel customers shortly after confirmation.

The problem affects Microsoft 365 customers in the Current Channel Version 2206 Build 15330.20196 and higher. However, it is not limited to these customers alone, as the problem can also cause freezing in current Beta and Current Channel Preview builds.

Microsoft said that customers using Outlook versions in the Current Channel would receive the fix as part of the patch Tuesday this month, on August 9, 2022.

For customers who cannot wait for a fix to be issued, Microsoft recommended that they return to a build that is not affected by the known issue.

To migrate Office installation to an earlier build, users are advised to open a Command Prompt in Administrator context, then insert two selected commands into the Command Prompt window and press Enter after each.
