Both Google and Twitter experienced outages that prevented thousands of users from accessing the platforms.

In the case of Twitter, more than 27,000 users reported the outage, according to Downdetector.com. The outage began at 1.50 p.m. ET and had as many as 35,000 reports at its peak.

Google was briefly dealing with users in the U.S., U.K., Australia, Singapore and reports of problems with the search engine on Tuesday. According to Downdetector.com, user reports indicate that the problem began at 9.12 p.m. EDT.

At its peak in the U.S., more than 40,000 people reported that Google wasn’t working. The figure quickly fell rapidly and remained below 100 since around 2 a.m. ET.

Both Twitter and Google confirmed that the problem had been fixed.

“We fixed it! We made an internal systems change that didn’t go as planned and have rolled it back. Twitter should now be loading as expected. Sorry about that!,” Twitter said in a tweet.

“We’re aware of a software update issue that occurred late this afternoon Pacific Time and briefly affected availability of Google Search and Maps, and we apologize for the inconvenience. We worked to quickly address the issue and our services are now back online,” Google said in a statement.
