Amazon to expand its cashier-less checkout technology to other industries

Amazon is considering pitching cashier-less checkout technology at brick-and-mortar stores to other industries and businesses.

The cashier-less technology Just Walk Out technology allows customers to shop and leave the store with their purchases without having to interact with a cashier, but cameras and sensors determine what shoppers take and bill them after they exit.

Since 2020, it has sold these systems to food and retail markets in airports, professional and university stadiums, and a convention center, but it now wants more.

This was made clear in Vice President Dilip Kumar’s message, which stated that the company intends to broaden sales of the technology since moving the team in charge to Amazon Web Services (AWS) in August.

Amazon has been operating cashier-less grocery stores in increasingly large Amazon Go and Amazon Fresh-branded stores, but this is the first time the technology has been brought to a Whole Foods location. Amazon paid $13.7 billion for the grocery chain in 2017, but until now, the brand’s integration with Amazon has been limited to discounts and free delivery for Prime members.
