Gartner’s Paul Delory identifies IT infrastructure trends for 2023

Share post:

Gartner analyst Paul Delory has outlined specific forecasts as well as suggestions for where to concentrate in 2023 on trends that will have a massive effect on IT infrastructure.

The identified trends are cloud infrastructure optimization and refactoring, which insinuates that infrastructure teams will eventually have the space and time to significantly improve current cloud resources and pay down technical debt because there will be no significant new cloud expansion projects in 2023. Cost optimization drives both the optimization of cloud infrastructure and the lack of significant cloud expansion projects.

Another predicted trend is the incorporation of cloud principles on-premises by data center teams, despite the fact that data center teams have been particularly hard hit by ongoing supply chain disruptions. According to Delory and his team, IT organizations are increasingly demanding the benefits and operating model of the public cloud, even for on-premises workloads. Cloud providers demonstrated a better way for businesses to create and use applications and data. Data center teams are under pressure to provide comparable value by making on-premises infrastructure more cloud-like: service-centric, elastic, and highly scalable with capacity on demand and consumption-based pricing.

The third prediction is one that is expected in every industry, and it is a necessity because it is the backbone of many businesses and technological growth. Innovation is predicted to be a trend in 2023, and Delory goes on to say that it will breed new application architectures, which will necessitate new types of infrastructure.

Delory’s final prediction in this regard is to prioritize skill growth above all else, because dedicating work time for employees to learn new skills on the clock, as well as establishing centers of excellence and/or communities of practice to share best practices and new ideas, is a factor that boosts both productivity and growth in all industries.
