A survey by recruiter Robert Half found that employers are looking for applicants with diverse skills, including both soft and technical know-how, to counter the emergence of a ‘hybrid’ workforce that split their time between work from home and the office.

The report now sees hybrid working as a “new normal” for employers and workers alike.

In addition, Chief Information Officers (CIOs) and Chief Technology Officers (CTOs) are trying to meet the growing demand for specialized technology and digital capabilities in various business areas.

The survey report also showed that the top five technology roles that CIOs and CTOs plan to fill in the second half of 2021 are cloud engineers, front-end developers, business transformation specialists, database administrators and business intelligence specialists.

In terms of expertise, DevOps (319%), Software as a Service Skills (143%) and Python programming (137%) have the highest demand.

At the beginning of 2021, 30% of employers said they saw technology and digital as a means to grow the business. Robert Half’s new data revealed that 26% of respondents were looking for digital or data skills to support this when hiring.

26% are recruiting specifically for these hybrid skills to further support the digitization of companies. Digital or data management (26%), change management (26%) and communication (25%) are also seeing strong demand from U.K. employers.

23% of respondents were most concerned about retraining and retraining for the remainder of 2021. The survey shows that 51% of workers want to improve their digital skills this year, and 43% want practical management training and 31% mentorship programs.

Employees also want to schedule and manage, as well as improve their communication skills, in order to navigate successfully in today’s hybrid environment.
