A 21-year-old fraudster was recently arrested by police in Manchester, U.K., for sending thousands of fraudulent text messages from SIM cards and various mobile devices to people every day in order to get their bank details and defraud them.

While the young fraudster is believed to be a member of a larger gang, police officers found electronic devices that could be used for text message phishing using text messages purportedly from parcel delivery company Hermes.

According to the police, this was a large-scale operation in which tens of thousands of messages were sent every day informing potential victims of missed deliveries while they asked for their bank details.

After careful examination, the police stated that a total of 44,000 mobile phone contacts were stored in the seized devices.
