Amazon To Buy Robot Vacuum Cleaner Company iRobot For $1.7 Billion

Amazon will buy iRobot, a robot vacuum cleaner company, in a deal worth about $1.7 billion. Amazon, a leader in smart home, has taken over several companies in recent years to cement its dominance.

Over the past five years, Amazon bought security camera provider Blink Home for an undisclosed amount and camera maker Ring for about $1 billion.

Commenting on Amazon’s decision to acquire iRobot, Collin Angle, CEO of iRobot, argued that Amazon is a perfect fit for the company. Angle will continue as CEO once the transaction is completed.

“Amazon shares our passion for building thoughtful innovations that empower people to do more at home, and I cannot think of a better place for our team to continue our mission. I’m hugely excited to be a part of Amazon and to see what we can build together for customers in the years ahead,” said Angle.

This is not the first time Amazon and iRobot will do business. iRobot partnered with Amazon in 2021 to make the Roomba and Braava jet robots compatible with Alexa. The partnership allowed customers to tell the robots to start or stop cleaning and return to its home location using voice commands.
