Intercontinental Hotels Group Suffers Cyberattack

Intercontinental Hotels Group (IHG), a UK-based company that manages the Holiday Inn, Crowne Plaza and Regent hotels, has confirmed a cyberattack on the company. IHG said it was investigating “unauthorized access” to a number of its technology systems.

“We will be supporting hotel owners and operators as part of our response to the ongoing service disruption. IHG’s hotels are still able to operate and to take reservations directly,” IHG said in a statement.

Customers who want to book accommodation have complained online.

The company said it was aware of the nature, extent and impact of the incident and had implemented its response plans, which include appointing external specialists to investigate the breach.

Despite issuing notices about the attack, the company failed to state any loss of customer data. It also did not explicitly say that the breach was a ransomware attack, although speculation suggests a possible ransomware strain.

The attack on IHG follows a ransomware attack on a Holiday Inn in Istanbul last month, which was carried out by LockBit. The attackers later released data stolen from the company.
