Shutterstock launches image generating AI

Shutterstock has announced the launch of its AI image generation platform, which will be available to all Shutterstock customers worldwide in all languages supported by the site. The new tool is an image generator based on Artificial Intelligence (AI) that can convert text instructions into images.

Shutterstock claims that its AI image generator can produce unique images based on a single word of instruction. It can be found on the Shutterstock website in the ‘Images’ section.

“Our easy-to-use generative platform will transform the way people tell their stories. You no longer have to be a design expert or have access to a creative team to create exceptional work,” Paul Hennessy, CEO of Shutterstock said in a statement. Hennessy added that it is built on an ethical AI approach and on a library of assets that represents a diverse world.

The AI model is a collaboration to help develop OpenAI’s Dall-E 2 artificial intelligence image-generation platform by utilizing Shutterstock libraries to train and feed the algorithm, while also developing its own generative AI tools for users. Customers of Shutterstock’s Creative Flow online design platform can now create images based on text prompts, thanks to OpenAI and Dall-E 2.

Shutterstock’s service not only embraces the ability to use AI rather than the skills of a human photographer to build the image you want to discover, but it also pits the company against Getty in terms of how it embraces the brave new world of artificial intelligence.

Shutterstock adds that the images are “ready for licensing” as soon as they are created.
