Warren Buffett, the CEO of Berkshire Hathaway and a well-known investor worldwide, has issued a warning about the potential consequences of artificial intelligence (AI).
Buffett made an analogy between the rapid advancement of AI technology and the atomic bomb when addressing at the firm’s annual conference in Omaha, Nebraska, adding that it has the power to change everything in the world except the way humans think and behave.
Buffett has voiced concern about AI’s unfettered potential, which he observed firsthand when testing ChatGPT alongside Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates. While awed by the technology’s vast powers, he is concerned about its potential for abuse. He believes that “we won’t be able to un-invent it,” and he is concerned about anything that can do several functions.
Buffett’s comparison of AI to the atomic bomb is notable since he has long been opposed to nuclear weapons, declaring that if he knew how, he would contribute all of his money to reducing the chance of attacks. He emphasized the necessity of thinking about AI’s long-term ramifications rather than simply its immediate advantages.
