TikTok Overtakes YouTube for Average Watch Time

App monitoring company App Annie has published new data showing that app users in the UK and US are spending more time on TikTok than on YouTube.

According to the report, the average time per user spent on the apps is higher on TikTok compared to YouTube. YouTube retains the top spot for overall time spent.

App Annie described TikTok as having “upended the streaming and social landscape” as it possesses higher levels of engagement.

App Annie’s report classified TikTok as one of the apps fueling a surge in money spent on creators thanks to its live-streaming feature which accounted for three-quarters of money spent in the top 25 social apps in the first half of 2021.

The “time spent” metric only accounts for Android phones outside of China where TikTok is an extremely popular app.
