Twitch Sues Two Linked to Automated Harassment Campaigns

Share post:

Twitch has filed suit against two people for using thousands of bots to spam a streamer’s chat with hateful comments aimed at people from marginalized communities.

The lawsuit accuses two users, using the usernames CruzzControl and Creatine Overdose, of being responsible for a network of 3,000 bots used in hate raids against streamers in the Black and LGBTQIA+ communities.

The users also said to have shown others how the bot works in order to use them for similar purposes on the site.

Twitch claims to have directly linked CreatineOverdose to several incidents, including an August 15th stream in which they claimed to be members of the “KKK.”

Although the lawsuit will not end the hate raids, many agree that it is a step in the right direction, and Twitch also promises to take more action at the platform level from now on.

A Twitch spokesman said of the company’s future plan: “Our teams have been working around the clock to update our proactive detection systems, address new behaviors as they emerge, and finalize new proactive, channel-level safety tools that we’ve been developing for months.”
