Amazon unveiled its EC2 M1 Mac Instances on Tuesday, which the company says are now available in a preview.
For clarification, EC2 Mac Instances are dedicated Mac mini computers connected to the AWS Nitro system via Thunderbolt. According to AWS, the new EC2 M1 Instances gives a 60% better price performance compared to the x86-based EC2 Mac Instances for iPhone and Mac App Build workload.
With the new EC2 M1 Mac instances, customers can run on-demand macOS workloads in the cloud. EC2 M1 Mac instances allow developers creating apps for Apple’s products (iPhone, iPad, Mac, Apple Watch, Apple TV and Safari) to easily access the macOS environment.
The new EC2 M1 Mac instances use a Mac mini with various features, including an M1 System on Chip (SoC) with 8 CPU cores, 8 GPU cores, 16 GiB memory and an Apple Neural Engine with 16 cores. The AWS Nitro system delivers up to 10Gbps of VPC network bandwidth and 8 Gbps EBS memory bandwidth.
