Google to add Microsoft 365 integration to ChromeOS

Google has announced that it will integrate Microsoft 365 into ChromeOS later this year, making it easier for users to install the app and open files.

This new integration will include a guided installation of the Microsoft 365 app as well as the connection of OneDrive accounts to the ChromeOS Files app. Documents in the Files app will also be moved to Microsoft’s cloud storage when accessed through the Microsoft 365 app.

According to Google, users will be given a guided setup experience that will walk them through the process of installing the Microsoft 365 web app and connecting Microsoft OneDrive to their Chromebook Files app. When you open the Microsoft 365 app, files will be moved to Microsoft OneDrive.

Google also stated that users in its Dev and Beta channels will be able to test the implementation even before the official launch. More information about the integration will be released “in the coming months,” with ChromeOS testers in the dev and beta channels getting access to it first.

“Today, users of Microsoft 365 and OneDrive software can use the Progressive Web App (Installable here) for their Microsoft Word, PowerPoint or Excel needs. To further help these users, we will have a new integration later this year on ChromeOS, making it easier to install the app and open files,” said Google on its support page.
