Google and Replit are working together to incorporate Google’s AI language models into Replit’s Ghostwriter software, which is used by over 20 million computer programmers. The collaboration aims to compete with Microsoft Corp.’s GitHub and OpenAI, whose product Copilot suggests code blocks as coders type.
Replit will increase its capacity to suggest code blocks, complete programs, and reply to developer queries by leveraging Google’s language-generation AI. Furthermore, the collaboration will expand Replit’s usage of Google’s cloud services, and Google will distribute Replit’s software as part of the agreement.
As per Replit CEO Amjad Masad, the business would deploy a customized blend of numerous Google AI systems that handle diverse functions such as conversation and code production. He believes Google has greater technology than most people realize. Furthermore, the collaboration seeks to help Replit get over larger corporate clients, as its present clientele are mostly individual developers and startups.
Replit’s goal is to give a more in-depth understanding of the many software components that developers use to produce code, as well as to assist programmers throughout the code-writing process, including building tests, deploying the app, evaluating the app, and communicating with colleagues. The startup plans to improve GitHub’s Copilot, which Masad likened to “speaking to an AI on the phone,” and wants Ghostwriter to provide a more customized and integrated coding experience.
The Google-Replit partnership is part of a slew of competing AI product launches and advancements from Google, Microsoft, and OpenAI, which is supported by Microsoft and attracted considerable attention last year with the wider release of its ChatGPT chatbot. Replit has garnered approximately $100 million in investment to far, and its customers include Stripe Inc., an electronic payments provider, and Shopify Inc., an e-commerce platform.
