The White House is planning a meeting with CEOs from some of the world’s leading AI companies, including Alphabet, Anthropic, Microsoft, and OpenAI, to address the duty of building safe and trustworthy AI.

Vice President Kamala Harris and other top government officials will attend the summit, which is slated for Thursday, May 5, 2023, and will participate in larger conversations regarding AI with other companies.

The meeting’s goal is to emphasize the possible dangers of AI and the need of avoiding these risks. It also builds on past White House initiatives like the Blueprint for an AI Bill of Rights and the AI Risk Management Framework.

According to the invitation received by Axios, the CEOs and government officials intend to engage in an open debate about the hazards involved with current and near-term AI development, as well as how to reduce those risks. Arati Prabhakar, Director of the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy, noted in the invitation that they would also address strategies to guarantee that the American people benefit from developments in AI while being safeguarded from its downsides.

CEOs scheduled to attend include OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei, Microsoft Chairman and CEO Satya Nadella, and Alphabet CEO Sundar Pichai. Commerce Secretary Gina Raimondo, presidential assistants Jeff Zients and Bruce Reed, domestic policy advisor Susan Rice, and others are all planned to attend.
