Apple’s AI plans not to materialize in 2023, Kuo says

Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has said that the company’s generative AI plans are not likely to materialize in 2023. Kuo said that Apple’s progress in generative AI is “significantly behind its competitors” and that there is “no sign” that the company will integrate AI edge computing and hardware products in 2024.

Kuo’s comments come after Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman reported in July that Apple is internally testing a generative AI chatbot. Gurman said that Apple could make a “significant AI-related announcement” in 2024.

Regarding generative AI, Kuo expresses concern over Apple lagging behind its competitors in this domain. Consequently, he expects the company to remain tight-lipped about their progress in this field. Despite this, Kuo does not outright dismiss the possibility of a significant AI announcement in 2024, as suggested by Gurman. However, he doesn’t foresee next-gen AI launching in Apple’s consumer hardware in the coming year.

Kuo said that he does not expect Apple to say much about AI on its earnings call tomorrow. He also said that the Vision Pro shipment forecast for 2024 is still quite small, so it is currently difficult to benefit the stock prices of Apple and its supply chain.
