Startup launches AI platform to slash building energy costs

A startup backed by Nvidia and collaborating with Apple has launched a new AI platform that it claims can cut building energy costs by one-third. The company, PassiveLogic, says its “generative autonomy” systems can manage building infrastructure from a few hundred sensors and controls for small buildings to 1 million for large commercial towers.

The company’s technology works by using generative AI to predict a building’s operational needs and then optimize the delivery of energy. This is done using a digital simulation of a real life object, also known as a “digital twin.”

PassiveLogic claims that its platform can achieve major energy efficiencies because it is autonomous and does not require the installation of big equipment like heat pumps. The company also says that its platform can be tailored to the specific needs of each building owner. The company’s CEO, Troy Harvey, believes that the building world is stagnant and needlessly complex. He compares it to the auto industry before Tesla.

“The newest platform in building automation is now 25 years old. It was a startup from the ’90s that Honeywell bought,” he said.
