Tracking Systems Decrease Performance and Increase Fatigue

Share post:

A recent survey by the research and consulting firm Gartner shows that the use of tracking systems makes workers almost twice as likely to pretend to be doing their job, and also increases fatigue.

In January 2021, Gartner surveyed more than 2,400 knowledge workers about their hybrid or remote work situation.

The study showed that performance can drop by 33% as workers become more exhausted, and the sense of inclusion decreases by around 44%. As a result, 54% are less likely to stay in their organization.

To address this, Gartner encourages companies to adopt a hybrid work model. Providing employees with a flexible work schedule that allows them to choose where and when to work will improve corporate culture and mental health.

According to the study, Gartner says “allowing flexibility leads to companies often seeing a three-times jump in high employee performance.”

The company also suggests adopting an empathy-based approach to employees who work in a hybrid environment. Human resources departments must also focus on three barriers to ensuring empathy in the workplace – skill, mindset, and capacity.

Finally, Gartner says that enabling “intentional collaboration” is critical to driving productivity and innovation in the workplace. Companies that have a high level of conscious collaboration report higher team performance.
